VERY interesting forum here. Long overdue. Congratulations to whoever is responsible.
Let’s get a few facts – undeniable FACTS – on the table.
I understand that I have riled some people with my insistance on calling Erik McVay out (and now a few others) on their badgering of others for not writing reviews). I can live with it though.
I just believe in being honest. I hammered Phil Taylor and the PDC and Bull's Eye and others when for two years they hid the facts about Taylor's problems with the girls he was eventually convicted of fondling. I bashed the old MMDL board for pretty much everything. I really do try to focus on the positive and to promote the sport, most of the time. It's certainly what I prefer.
Any relationship I once had with Erik is over. My issue is with him, not SEWA. Clearly SEWA holds some interest for many people. But in my opinion Erik is a liar, a hypocrite, and an ego-maniac. I detest all of this. I believe that he is coaxing new people into his site (with the help of a small handful of people) under false pretenses. I believe this is wrong.
Erik claims (and others aggressively spread this) to have created the site but, in truth, Dartplayer.com, created by Jason Olsen, was the foundation for it all. He gives no reasonable credit to Jason.
Erik claims (and others aggressively spread this) that the site has 3,000+ active participants. In truth there are a couple of dozen active posters. Many, many formally very active members, including moderators and senior moderators, have left - and many of them have left with very bad feelings.
Erik has claimed (and others have agressively spread this) that most of SEWA's members cast votes for the Gingernut pub contest to win the creation of a website. This was flat out untrue. When the Gingernut lost Erik posted that he would host the website for free. This all transpired a couple years ago. I ask: is he hosting a website for the Gingernut pub?
Erik claims (and others aggressively spread this) that SEWA is a family-oriented site. Today it seems so (although he allows Just Sayin' to function behind the scenes so, as it was explained to me, "he can still get hits"). While this seems borderline hypocritical, what was horrifically hypocritical was for him to allow a registered sex offender to continue to post at the site for months despite knowing the full facts about the guy. He has since claimed to have been unaware. This is inconsistent with the claims of many moderators who argued with him - saying the guy should be banned.
Erik claims (and others aggressively spread this) that SEWA consistently ranks at the top of the Top 100 darts website ranking list - and that the forum is the most visited darts forum in the world. This is simply absurd. All anyone needs to do is go check the Top 100 list.
A few years ago Erik and I undertook a darts challenge at the Oregon Open. The loser was to wear a dress for the balance of the tournament. I took a dress with me - I showed it to him before we began play on stage. At 3-3 Erik quit. He has refused to play the final leg ever since. But he claims to have once been one of the top 50 players in the country and frequently posts about his skills. He boasts but he is afraid to play me. And I suck.
I could go on... and on... and on.
Now, and for weeks, a few people have been pushing others to write Alexia reviews - because it is so little to ask in return for all Erik has given the world of darts, that he deserves our honor and respect. I think these people are doing darts and themselves a disservice. Only eight people have had reviews posted (and missing are many people who one would think would have been among the first, including several moderators and behind-the-scenes people - like Biggie, Digger, Rocky, Charis and many more. We then learn that only positive reviews find the light of day – and that at least one person who wrote a negative review was banned. Naturally this causes one to wonder how many others were never approved.
So, among the “3,000+ members of the #1 darts forum in the world that is led by an honorable and respectable person” only a miniscule fraction of a percent are motivated to go on the record with positive reviews. Curious.
This is the short story of why I will have nothing to do with the guy.
I don't mean to offend anybody, really. Yet, I find it difficult to believe that the people who so enthusiastically support Erik are not aware of most of this. Fair enough.
What disturbs me is that by their blind support, regardless of the facts, they are in effect duping others into believing Erik is something he is not.
This is not to say that the site itself isn't of value to some people.
